Typically, installation problems arise when the installer cannot establish a connection with the server… The fact is that the Skype installation has its own peculiarities: the installation file SkypeSetup.exe, which can be downloaded from the official website of the program, weighs only about 1.5 MB and does not contain all the necessary data for installing the program. During the installation process, it downloads the necessary files from the Internet. If for some reason he cannot do this, the installation will not be completed.
If you have problems installing Skype, the first thing to do is check your network connection – if there is no Internet connection, you will not be able to install the program. However, even if there is an Internet connection, it happens that the installer cannot connect to the server to download the necessary files. What to do in this case?
Blocking the installer’s access to the Internet can antivirus or firewall (firewall)… Therefore, at the time of installation, you need to add SkypeSetup.exe to the list of exclusions of these programs or disable protection altogether (just do not forget to turn it back on after the installation is complete). However, keep in mind that viruses may also be the problem, so check your computer for viruses before disabling security programs.
Also, a problem with access may arise if you used tweakers – programs for fine-tuning the operating system. In this case, either return default settings manually, or roll back the system to a restore point created before using the tweaker (but note that in this case, all changes made after the restore point will be undone).
In the event that you cannot provide the installer with Internet access by any of the above methods, try download full installation package at skype.com/go/getskype-msi. It already contains all the necessary files and will not download anything. You can also try installing the portable version of the program.
However, remember that installers and portable versions downloaded from suspicious sites may contain viruses and harm your computer. That’s why do not download installers from sites you do not trust, and do not disable the antivirus if the installer was not downloaded from the official site skype.com.
Sometimes the problem occurs during the installation phase Skype Click to Call pluginwhich allows you to make calls with a single tap on the phone number in the browser. Since this plugin is quite possible to do without, the easiest way to solve the problem is to go back one step or run the installer again and uncheck the box when you are prompted to install Skype Click to Call. If you suddenly need a plugin, you can download and install it separately.
If there are multiple users on the computer, make sure that the user has permission to install programs. It’s better to run the installation file as administratorTo do this, right-click on the file name and select the “Run as administrator” option in the context menu.
Also, problems with installation may arise if Skype was already installed on the computer and was uninstalled incorrectly. In this case, you need to remove the remnants of the program from the Program Files folder and the registry. We strongly do not recommend doing this manually, it is better to use some cleaning programfor example CC Cleaner. After cleaning, download the latest version of Skype and try installing it again.
As you can see Skype may not install for several reasons… If you cannot install Skype, do not rush to reinstall the operating system: you may be able to solve the problem using one of the above methods.
