10 Best Android Lock Screen Apps And Lock Screen Replacement Apps

The Android lock screen has changed a lot over the years. There have been many different ways to unlock it and different types from company to company. There are many apps for lock screens in the Play Store. These days, we usually recommend people use a fingerprint scanner that will automatically unlock the phone without needing to input their password. There are many apps for your phone. Some of them can be shown on the lock screen. These are the best ones to use!

With most phones these days, people don’t need to enter a password to get into the phone. They just use their fingers and they can go in without having to see anything on the screen. Most people just look at the phone to see what is there – like if there is a notification or what time it is. An Android phone has an always-on screen. It is turned on all the time. This used to be a special feature that needed an app, but now it is the default for all Android phones.

We don’t see many new features in this space and most of what we find does not have as much security as the lock Therefore, we comprised this list of what few good lock screen apps remain in active development along with a few old favorites that may not see active development again.

AcDisplay is a popular lock screen app. It is like the lock screens on devices with always-on displays, like the Moto X, Galaxy S8, and others. Some people can play with notifications without unlocking their phones. This phone has some customizations. For example, you can control what time it works to save battery life. More and more devices are coming with this feature. AcDisplay is only recommended for people with older devices. Its last update was in 2015. We are not sure if the developer is still working on it. It’s free to download and try out, so you can see what it does for yourself!

Always on AMOLED

Always on AMOLED is not a lock screen, but it will display phone information. It will show things like the time and notifications. This app has features like a clock movement to avoid burn-in. You can also make it doze mode when running. We only recommend this on devices with OLED displays, including Samsung’s AMOLED display. It doesn’t work as well on LCD screens, though. We recommend this only on older devices that don’t have an “always-on-display” feature. The native version of the app usually works better.

DIY Locker

This is a simple lock screen with some ideas. You can put a passcode or pattern code on your lock screen. But you can also make it look good by adding photos of people you like. It also has widget support for notifications, a music player, and an app quick start. It’s not really clear if it will work for many people though. Lock screen apps are not as popular as they were before. For some people, it will work though.

DIY Lock Screen

DIY Lock Screen is a developer on Google Play. They make different lock screen apps. They all work the same way. When you press the lock button, it will show a colorful lock screen instead of your normal one. You can have security on your iPhone with a 4-digit passcode. There are many different themes to choose from. Wallpapers are also a good option. But some of the designs actually look pretty cool. For example, they might be our first choice: we just don’t want to do it because we have another idea that is better and only one more that we like.

Floatify is a popular app to replace your lock screen. It looks like the lock screen on your phone (but you can customize it). There’s a clock and other information like weather or notifications. On the bottom of the lock screen, you can customize shortcuts. It also has other features like turning on the display when you pick up your phone. There are also themes and a chat heads feature similar to Facebook Messenger. It’s a good lock screen replacement. It hasn’t been updated since late 2017, but we’re not sure if this one is still being worked on.

KLCK Kustom Lock Screen Maker

KLCK is also by the developers of KWGT Kustom Widgets and KLWP Live Wallpaper. This app lets you make your own custom lock screen. It uses an easy editor that has many features. You can make your own watch face. You can do things like add notifications, shapes, graphics, backgrounds, and more. You can even put in stuff like Google Fit data or weather or an RSS feed on your watch. This app has Tasker support. It is still in beta, so it might have some bugs. But if you want a custom lock screen, this is the one we recommend.

Lockscreen Widgets

Lockscreen Widgets is one of the newer apps for your lock screen. It brings back an old feature from Android where you can put widgets on your lock screen. There is a new app. You can put one widget per page and have a lot of pages. It is good for people who want more info on the screen when they lock their phone and for people who miss this from Android 5.0 Lollipop. The app is in early release beta. But it worked well when we tested it. The cost of the app is $1.49 with no in-app purchases or ads.

Solo Locker

Solo Locker is one of the best DIY lock screen apps. You get to customize your lock screen with lots of different things. When you are done, it will act as a lock screen on your phone. The app has many ways to lock your phone and wallpaper. You can change the way it looks with widgets on the screen. There are not a lot of options, but you can make this fun. The app is free. You can buy things using in-app purchases.

Pre-made KLCK themes

We talked about KLCK earlier in the blog post. It is great for making your own lock screen. There are many KLCK themes in the Play Store that do most of the work for you. Some cool themes for your phone are Liquify (link below), Evonik, and Grace. Some look like other devices and some just look nice in general. Additionally, some apps work with KLCK. They are not standalone lock screen apps, but they all work with KLCK and take away a lot of the guesswork. You can also search for more KLCK themes in the Play Store.

Use your lock screen

It is hard to see your lock screen’s functionality on newer versions of Android. Third-party replacements do not have as much power as before and you can’t use things like lock screens widgets (and, by extension, DashClock Widget, and similar apps). The stock lock screen can show you notifications, keep out intruders, and always be on if you need it to. But with the home screen minimized as much as it has been, that’s about all you can do even if you use a third-party replacement. We recommend using the lock screen that comes with your phone because it is popular. People are not using third-party lock screens anymore. They like to use biometric solutions for their lock screen instead.
